Nkayi Development Initiative, affectionately known as NDI, is a beacon of hope for the Nkayi District in Zimbabwe. Founded on 27th May, 2017, in Wolverhampton, England, by a group of passionate Zimbabweans residing in the United Kingdom, NDI was born from a shared vision of uplifting the community they call home.

Nkayi Development Initiative, affectionately known as NDI, is a beacon of hope for the Nkayi District in Zimbabwe. Founded on 27th May, 2017, in Wolverhampton, England, by a group of passionate Zimbabweans residing in the United Kingdom, NDI was born from a shared vision of uplifting the community they call home.
Our Mission
At NDI, we believe in the power of community-led development. Our mission is to bring positive change to Nkayi District by focusing on essential areas such as education, healthcare, vocational training, and clean water. With a motto of “My Home. My Heart. My Hope,” we strive to create a brighter future for generations to come.
Our Story
NDI’s journey began with a pilot project at Somakantana Primary School in 2019, where we drilled and installed a solar-powered borehole in August 2019. Since then, we have continued to expand our efforts, from donating thermometers, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to Nkayi Rural District Hospital to providing hospital beds for maternity use as well as theatre gowns in April 2019.
One of our proudest achievements is the construction of a new classroom block at Somakantana Primary School, which was completed and handed over on 30th March, 2023. This project not only addressed the immediate needs for safe and conducive learning environments but also symbolized our commitment to education and community development.
Looking Forward
As we continue our mission, NDI is dedicated to making a lasting impact in Nkayi District. In November, 2023, we acquired land with the intention of building our offices and a vocational training centre.
With this centre, NDI hopes to provide school leavers with valuable skills and qualifications, empowering them to pursue employment opportunities and start their own income-generating projects.
